Make a Difference Using Effective Inter Office Communications

Hey, you're new. We like you already! You obviously have great taste! If you like what you read here you'll probably want to subscribe to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!

Our office is always abuzz with phones ringing, emails downloading, and fax machines printing the latest junk mail. At times, this can make communication amongst coworkers quite challenging. To help increase the effectiveness and speed of communications, we use instant messaging.

IM is a great tool to quickly shoot a question out to the boss or for sending links of the newest, greatest YouTube video. Messenging allows users to get thoughts out at lightning speeds, the moment your pinky presses enter.

I was browsing my MSN IM software yesterday and noticed an interesting link labeled “I’m making a difference.” Upon clicking the link, I was sent to a Live.com page describing a way MSN uses its advertising revenues. According to the site:

Every time you start a conversation using i’m, Microsoft shares a portion of the program’s advertising revenue with some of the world’s most effective organizations dedicated to social causes. We’ve set no cap on the amount we’ll donate to each organization. The sky’s the limit.

So any time you have an i’m™ conversation using Windows Live Messenger, you help address the issues you feel most passionate about, including poverty, child protection, disease, environmental degradation and animal protection. It’s simple. All you have to do is join and start an instant messaging conversation. We’ll handle the donation.

So there you have it. Increase office communications while helping address the world’s major issues. Life is good.

HEY - I go away on vacation for a week and Rob steals my tagline. *I* always say Life is GOOD … it is even my personal email.

That aside, I agree that IM is a great way to communicate with coworkers. Even though we do work in relative close proximity to one another, anytime you want to show someone a site you’re reading, zipping the IM over to them is just a click away. No one has to get up and leave their workstation to look over your shoulder at the site.
