Google Removes “No Censorship” from Website

In light of Google’s new policy to censor results with Chinese engine google.cn, Google has removed an interesting line from one of their main webmaster info pages.

Specifically, the page on URL removals, used to say:

We’re committed to providing thorough and unbiased search results for our users; therefore, we cannot participate in the practice of censorship.

Today, the sentence ends with “users”, and the line “Therefore, we cannot participate in the practice of censorship” has been removed.

I love how companies can go from an absolute certainty such as “cannot” to the exact opposite all in the name of new profits. This page may require future editing as the word “unbiased” certainly does not apply in their results in China either.
