Build and Market a Website that Sells: Week 3
Hey, you're new. We like you already! You obviously have great taste! If you like what you read here you'll probably want to subscribe to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!
I lost a couple more students this week but actually had the chance to talk with them first. While I always thought I was in danger of the information being too basic, some have expressed that the information was actually more advanced than what they are ready for. I’m exploring ideas for a better course topic now. Right now I think “Strategies for Building and Marketing your Website” is the best short description.
On the plus side, those that remain in the class have expressed their keen interest in the topic. Last night I didn’t get through nearly as much information as I had hoped, spending most of our time on keyword research. This area of the book actually needs to be revamped, but I went through our current methods of keyword research step by step, which they found fascinating.
Since I didn’t get as far as I had hoped next week, which will be the last, will be different from the previous. I asked the students to look through the book and come back with suggestions of areas they want me to cover, since I won’t be able to get to it all. This way at least I’ll be able to hit on the most important parts. I suspect that linking will be a part of next weeks class.
When I teach this class again in the fall I have already extended each two-hour session by one hour, giving me 12 hours total. I’ll probably need more but would rather not have enough time than too much. I might actually start with the section on search engine optimization first, as that is the meatiest portion of the book. Hit that first and then go back and hit the other stuff if/when there is time.
