Build and Market a Website that Sells: Week Four
Hey, you're new. We like you already! You obviously have great taste! If you like what you read here you'll probably want to subscribe to our RSS feed (or the audio RSS feed). Stick around and be sure to speak up and post a comment or two!
Thursday was the last class for the spring and I’m scheduled again in October/November to teach the class again. In the fall we’ll be adding an extra four hours to the class (four three-hour sessions instead of four two-hour sessions.) The added time will give me a little leeway to work through the material more deliberately without feeling rushes, while also taking the time to jump online more for some real-life examples.
If I could pinpoint the biggest flaw in the presentation it would be time to cover things in more detail with more examples. Probably the next biggest flaw (I glanced at the class review) was lack of preparation on my part. I think this stemmed from the fact that I was trying to hard to adhere to the book rather than just using the points on the PowerPoint and talking through them from my own knowledge and experience. I would often lose my place in the book which would leave me with a few seconds of “um”ing.
I’ll need to go back and revamp my presentation hard copy. It currently contains the full text of the book with key things highlighted to draw my attention to them. This didn’t work because I would often not now the context of the highlight without reading the whole paragraph. I’ll go back and simply boil everything down to bullet points.
I also have to admit that I didn’t read through the material before each class and that is something I should have done… I should have known better. But in all, I received above average reviews from the students.
One question asked if the title/description was accurate in which most said that it probably wasn’t. One student suggested “Crash Course in Internet Marketing” which actually sounds about right.
I’m going to try to get myself a copy of the reviews and I’ll post the results here. All in all feedback was constructive and will help me put on a better class next time around.
