Will Ask Jeeves be renamed? Possibly. MarketWatch is reporting that the new owner of Ask.com, Barry Diller, is considering renaming the engine.
“We’re thinking about renaming it,’’ Diller said during a question and answer session at the D3 — All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad. “It probably won’t be called Ask Jeeves.’’
When pressed as to what […]

We just beta released a tool designed to measure the performance of a keyword ranking campaign. KRP (Keyword Ranking Performance) is designed to provide a mathematically accurate scoring system by analyzing the following:
Search engine rankings on the top 5 U.S. search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Ask.com)
Site visibility in relation to top search ranking positions
Search […]

I found this great piece on WebProNews about what an SEO company really does. This dovetails with something that I’ve had on my plate to write about for the past couple of weeks, which is what makes the perfect SEO firm? Since SEM can branch in virtually limitless directions, I’m just focusing on what any […]

Shari Thurow has finished her series on identifying search engine experts. While I have disagreed with certain points of each article, overall I find that we do largely agree on the big points.
I don’t mean to be egotistical but can’t help but wonder if the following statement was in reference to my communication with Shari, […]

SEO companies come in all shapes and sizes. You’ve got your solo SEOs that either a) do everything themselves and/or b) sub-contract out many aspects of each campaign while maintaining a tight control on the quality and results of the project. Then you have your big SEO firms that employ 20+ employees that handle […]

An article over at Sci-Tech Today is reporting that Google CEO Eric Schmidt is saying that Google is not a portal.
Really? Well, if using the definition from the article, “A Web portal is a site which offers a range of personalized services on one page.” I guess that’s true. You have to click to a […]

For the past several weeks I’ve had an ongoing conversation with a reporter about a possible story. She found me through one of my articles that got published on Web Pro News.
After about a few weeks of her putting her story ideas together and talking with her editor I finally got the call for the […]

EMP is the new home of the Pole Position Weblog and Pole Position News.
Due to circumstances entirely in my control, we had to roll out the EMP site earlier than planned and as you’ll see, not everything is finished and/or entirely functional. We’re getting to that!
In the mean time, all the posts from Pole […]

Telemarketers would be “phone spammers” and their phone numbers disconnected
There would only be one McDonalds , Motel 6, Radio Shack, Subway, AutoZone etc. allowed per city
Any auto manufacture that puts out the same vehicle under different names would be closed down for spamming the highways
That’s all I got for now…

I recently read a book that used the phrase “unethical SEOs” quite frequently when describing certain SEO tactics performed by some SEO providers. I know, the unethical debate has been beaten to the ground but what got me is that in this book an “unethical SEO” was one who used such tactics as attempting to […]

DMOZ (ODP - Open Directory Project) is closing down their site submission status request forum.
Our feedback indicates that the information we are giving out really is not a practical help in the vast majority of cases.
Huh. So finding out if your submission has been moved to a different category, lost, misplaced or rejected is […]

Last week I posted an article about Working Through the Negatives of SEO. It was a lame title for the post but I couldn’t think of anything better at that time of night and, well, I still haven’t.
Today, however I see Benjamin Pfeiffer of SEO Roundtable is thinking along the same lines. The link goes […]

My comments on Shari Thurow’s article on Identifying SEO Experts received pretty harsh feedback from Shari herself. She disagreed with my view that usability isn’t a primary function of SEO.
Again, I want to re-iterate my point, usability is a very important aspect to the overall marketing of a website to the search engines, but […]

This is a pretty cool game: 20Q.net. I’ve played it several times now and am amazed each time that it guesses what I’m thinking. I’ve only stumped it a couple of times but for the most part it guesses or is very very close.
The neat thing about this program is that it learns. This is […]

I found a somewhat comical article about link building. Its comical insomuch that it has definite rings of truth to it. It’s a quick read. Enjoy.
