Will Personalized Search Change the Face of SEO?

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Google rolled out a new version of their Personalized Search and its making waves in the SEO community. Many are predicting doom to the world of SEO or believe that this will at the very least change how we optimize sites for the search engines.
Personalized Search is an improvement to Google search that orders your […]

Aging your Website to Perfection

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Browsing through my news scrapes this morning I came across a headline titled “Google’s Patent Implications”. I’ve read quite a bit about this already and was about to pass it by when I noticed it was written by Jill Whalen. Jill is not known to be an algorithm chaser so it struck me as odd […]

Reporters, Columns, and Actionable Items

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Writing an article on SEO is difficult enough, even for those of us immersed in the industry. I often run across mainstream news articles about SEO that are considerably out of date or a story about something new that’s really, well, not.
For someone not in the SEO industry the learning curve is considerable. I realized […]

How Important Is Content?

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Heather Lloyd-Martin has written an excellent article on search engine optimization copywriting.
Successful SEO copywriting is more than just word counts and keyphrase densities. It’s about gently blending information, persuasion and, yes, keyphrases into your text. It’s knowing the line between “fluff” and “information” – and understanding what power words will translate into skyrocketing sales.
SEOs that […]

Marketing Your Web Site the Right Way is a Worthwhile Investment

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Thursday, June 16th, 2005

I admit it, I have a problem. I’m a control freak and I like to do things myself because “I’ll do it right and I just noticed save money at the same time”.
This philosophy has gotten me in trouble more than once. Most recently, I broke my blog. Because I knew enough to know that […]

Review: G-Metrics

posted by Pole Position Marketing Team on Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

I recently stumbled across an interesting research tool called; G-Metrics .
This is a web based system that allows you to track changes in the number of search results returned by Google for a specified query. The service is powered by the Google API, which G-Metrics uses to poll Google daily for the number […]

Image is Everything

Last night I made a fool of myself. My son was in the finals in his Rookie baseball league. They had to play an undefeated team, if that team won, they were the champions, however since every team is allowed one loss in the playoffs, if my son’s team won, they would have to play […]

My Radio Debut

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

On Friday I gave an interview with Global Talk Radio. I recently was interviewed by an online/print journalist but this was my first for radio broadcast, and I found both strikingly different. The print interview allowed me the freedom to clarify my remarks, and often times refine them into something remotely quotable. On the other […]

Does Marketing Hype Often Leave You Dissappointed?

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Friday, June 10th, 2005

Pre-marketing hype can be a double edged sword and marketers must come to fully understand that if they don’t already.

The Churning of the Rumor Mill

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Friday, June 10th, 2005

The online community is great. Where else can a rumor get started and quenched within a few hours. Yesterday at 11:49 am Jeff Martin started a thread at Search Engine Watch about what looked as if Google had pulled all ads related to ‘click fraud’. I did a quick scan of my regularly visited blogs […]

Buying in Bulk

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Thursday, June 9th, 2005

The more I think about it, the more I see purchasing an SEO campaign as buying in bulk. When you buy in bulk you get a lot more for less. Contracting to a professional SEO (vs. hiring in-house) you get a lot more skills, knowledge, experience, and know how, which is then spread out over a number of different optimization campaigns. Not only that but you get a greater representation of skills […]

Customer Service Horror Story

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

I just got off the phone with a prospective client… oh, wait, now they ARE a client. They are having problems with their web host providers who have essentially taken their website captive. Oddly enough, the host provider is not doing anything nefarious, but often times inaction is just as bad as a corrupt action.
For […]

SiteMaps: What’s In It For Google

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

Maybe I’m too cynical, or maybe just always looking for the angle. I always like to give people/companies the benefit of the doubt but Google has officially lost that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Google hater, I just came to realize that Google does not do anything without there being an angle in […]

Yahoo, Cisco Join Forces Against Spam

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Monday, June 6th, 2005

Yahoo and Cisco are developing a new solution to fight email spam.
The partners have pledged to develop a specification combining their respective cryptographic-based security offerings: Yahoo’s DomainKeys and Internet Identified Mail from Cisco.
The new product will be called DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), and will be offered royalty-free to the industry.
The goal behind this technology is […]
