Leading Your Team: Lay Out the Rewards

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Friday, July 28th, 2006

People are motivated more by what they receive than by what they give. Sure, many people have giving spirits and want to contribute positively to society, but when it comes to work, face it, most of your employees are there because they need the pay check.
But even if that’s true it doesn’t mean that that […]

When are Session IDs Appropriate

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Thursday, July 27th, 2006

When are session IDs appropriate for a search engine friendly website? The quick answer to that is… wait for it… NEVER!
When you require session IDs to be assigned to your visitors a unique ID string is attached to the URL of your site each time a visitor comes to your site. Let’s say I’m on […]

Leading Your Team: Believe in Them

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

There is no greater boss than one who believes in his team members. Sometimes that’s harder said than done! After all, the boss got where they are because the know more and/or are better at the job than everybody else, right? Sometimes, this is true, and in these cases it becomes especially difficult to have […]

SEO Quick Tip: Proper Use of Flash

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

All-Flash Websites
All-flash sites are generally ineffective at achieving top placement (with a few exceptions). While search engines are getting better about reading the text inside flash files, flash websites themselves are not conducive to good usability for information rich sites. Search engine marketing is about delivering the most qualified traffic to the most qualified pages. […]

Dare to Dream… Then Do It
What Successful People Know and Do
Authors: John C. Maxwell
Hardcover: 120 pages, $9.74
Published: April, 2006
I’ve read some of Maxwell’s other books and enjoy them immensely, but was initially disappointed when this one came in the mail. I was looking for something longer and meatier. This isn’t so much of a Maxwell […]

The Return

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Monday, July 24th, 2006

I’m back from vacation! Phew, it’s nice to be back to work. OK, so I could have used a little vacation after my vacation, but we did return several hours earlier than we had planned (almost 24) so I got an extra day of R&R.
Well, either I wasn’t paying attention or I was simply having […]

adCenter Sucks… No, it Really Does

posted by Seth Tachick on Thursday, July 20th, 2006

I’m starting to wonder, is there ANYONE out there that has had a positive experience with the relatively new MSN adCenter? I personally am starting to wonder if it is all a joke put on by Bill Gates himself. With the adCenter accounts I have set up, I’m attaining less than 5% of the impressions […]

Yahoo Update for the 13th of July

posted by Seth Tachick on Thursday, July 20th, 2006

According to Rajat Mukherjee a new index update was performed starting the night of the 13th. This would explain the great improvement in Yahoo rankings with almost all our clients. Judging by most peoples’ response in the Search Engine Watch Forums, this update has been fairing them well too. What has been your experience […]

Lessons from Vacation: Museum of Flight

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Today we visited the Museum of Flight in Seattle. There is lots of cool stuff including an out of commission Concord jet (they’re all out of commission since 1993) and an Air Force One used during the Carter Administration.
What web marketing principles did I learn from the Museum of Flight? Well, it’s all about […]

NO ODP II!

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Friday, July 14th, 2006

It wasn’t long ago that MSN created a new meta tag to allow site owners to opt out of the search engine using ODP (a.k.a. DMOZ) descriptions in the search results for your site.
Yesterday Google announced support for the same. And lucky for us, the same tag works for both MSN and Google:

Both have […]

The Future of Linking?

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Friday, July 14th, 2006

Here is one well thought-out opinion on the future of linking. Linking has changed dramatically for many in the industry, but that’s just like any form of marketing; the goals often remain the same (but in the case case of links, more refined), its the methods that change. The methods we used to get links […]

I Know What You Know, I Feel What You Feel

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Friday, July 14th, 2006

The title, of course, is take from Star Trek. It’s one of the chants during a Vulcan Mind Meld. What does that have to do with anything I’ve got to say? Well, simply put, I’ll be going on vacation all next week, starting today, and I’ll be sharing some of my experiences here. As with […]

Proper Hx Heading Use

posted by Stoney deGeyter on Thursday, July 13th, 2006

It used to be that the use of headings played a significant role in the on-page optimization. While the value of on-page headings is probably not what they used to be I still believe they are important enough to put a good amount of consideration into. Aside from SEO, headings can also play an important […]
